Bankset is a financial and energy group investment company founded by Patrick Buri in 1996 in New York city. The company is engaged in a number of investments and recently developed the Bankset sun solar system on rails way with Deutsche Bahn, taking advantage of the rails network, solar panels are deployed over long distances in chain and series to potentially power Gwh of sun light energy[1]. Bankset started to pave the Deutsche Bahn rail network with solar modules in 2016 and feed it directly into the overhead lines. [2]

Patrick Buri (Austrian/Swiss engineer) chief at Bankset group installed the first solar panels on the rails network in 2015 in Switzerland and created the new market, further bankset solar modules where installed with TUV the national "Technischer Überwachungsverein e. V." (Technical Inspection Association) in Gorlitz Germany Saxony. A Bankset track is build in Germany Saxony and several constructions sites in Australia, Japan, Switzerland, Malaysia and the USA. [3]This is the first time that a solar road is deployed on the rails line and functionally proven concept. In Germany only; the potential is around 60 000km: 20 000km around conventional lines, 40 000km around heavy haul lines and industrial lines, further test and concepts are developed around high speed lines. In September 2021 the national publication Der Spiegel categorized this idea as a revolution for Germany's power supply system and a new era for solar energy power supply.[4]

Regardless of the brilliant idea, several rail companies are reluctant and prefer to wait and see. Other projects on roads have failed to proof of concept. Even today, only 75.2 percent of all long-distance trains reach their destination on time (as of 2021). [7]The British energy company Bankset expects an average of 0.1 megawatts of electricity per kilometer from its construction. Extrapolated to the entire rail network in Germany, this would ideally amount to an output of five nuclear power plants. According to Bankset, the use of the track systems for the production of solar power offers great potential.[8]
