Sophia Barclay (born April 28, 2000), better known as Barcllay, is a Brazilian drag queen and entertainer.[2]
Biography[edit]
Personal life[edit]
Barcllay was born in Guarulhos, in the Metropolitan Region of São Paulo, and is the daughter of Ana Paula Gomes, hairdresser and her father Sérgio Claudino, businessman in the tourism. She always liked the world of entertainment and during her childhood and adolescence, she had a very strict upbringing, attending Christian communities and very dedicated to her studies. After being kicked out of home due to being gay, she moved to Rio de Janeiro to fulfill her dreams of making concerts.
I once heard my mother say that she wanted to name a daughter Sophia. And [Margaret] Barclay was a woman burned for being a witch. We gays are also persecuted for who we are, so I decided to put these two names together — and so Sophia Barclay was born.[3]
On August 14, 2016, she started dating the singer and digital influencer Fael Nunes,[4] the couple maintains a stable relationship and since then they live in Santa Cruz, Rio de Janeiro.
In late 2021, Barclay assumed her real gender identity: she is, in fact, a non-binary transgender woman.[5][6]
On June 6, 2022, Sophia officially announces the change of her professional name to "Barcllay", keeping her name "Sophia Barclay" for the personal only.[7]
Career[edit]
In April 2020, a video of her career reached 1.8 million views on Facebook.[3] With the virality of the video, the artist quickly achieved great visibility and several new fans, becoming a reference for her LGBT social movements and having her life story told in various communication vehicles. The success and fame culminated in the release of "Agora Eu Vou!. In October of the same year, the artist returned to the spotlight after being discriminated against by the faithful of a Christian community[8][9][10][11][12][13][14][15][16][17]
In March 2021, she participated in the program "Um Tom de Resistência" shown by the portal Brasil 247 and the streaming platform YouTube and was confined to participate in the reality show "New Face Brasil", shown by the platform. streaming YouTube, where she maintained her participation for a week of play and even though she was considered one of the darlings alongside Dicesar and Hulk Magrelo, she asked to leave the program[18] alleging persecution of several. In the same month, he releases the song "Menino (Remix)", his musical collaboration alongside Vik, in June he launches his musical collaboration "Sem Sentimentos" alongside Karrsou and MC Xuxú and during the month of August he announces the release of his autobiography entitled "Verificadah: Uma Autobiografia de Sophia Barclay",[19] in September, Barclay begins the replanning of her artistic career for a new international era alongside her producer and manager Vinicius Henuns,[20] with the strategic aim of developing her musical career for the Latin and European market, and in December of the same year returns to the program "Um Tom de Resistência" aired by the portal Brasil 247[21] and the streaming platform YouTube.
In February 2022, Barclay released "Eu Não Te Quero Mais" and later released "Supera" with Croislla and Vinicius Henuns[22] from her first EP titled "Bad Bitch".
