Eduarda dos Santos de Souza, better known as Croislla (born August 29, 2006), is a Brazilian drag queen, singer, songwriter and dancer. She became nationally known in 2016 when she released the song "Treme Devagar". A hit on Spotify and YouTube, it led to the release of the extended play (EP) Meu Legado in 2020. In the following year, the EP spawned hits like "Favelada da Quebrada", "Morenas da Quebrada" and "Bonecas Colocadas".[1]
Biography
Personal life
Croislla was born in Lauro de Freitas, which is located 15 km (9.3 mi) from the state capital of Salvador, Bahia, and is the daughter of Neronildes dos Santos, a manicure, and her father Arisvaldo de Souza, a businessman in the tourism industry. She always liked the world of entertainment and during her childhood and adolescence, she had a strict upbringing and was very dedicated to her studies. During childhood, she suffered prejudice from schoolmates and family members for behaving in a feminine way, far from the standards considered masculine, and in adolescence she understood her homosexuality.[2]
Career
Croislla started singing in the church choir at 8 years old, and began her career on social media with covers at 10. Being raised in a peripheral neighborhood of the city, she began to have contact with funk and other rhythms of the communities.[3] In early 2016, the artist decided to launch her musical career with the single “Treme Devagar”, in partnership with singer, songwriter and producer Vinicius Henuns. The song quickly achieved great visibility on streaming platforms, reaching the twenty-sixth position of the most viral songs on Spotify Brazil, being constantly compared to the carnival hit “Envolvimento” by Mc Loma and the Gêmeas Lacração.[4] She even made a cameo in the second episode of the show "De Frente com Barcllay" by Sophia Barclay and Fael Nunes. A television format was acquired by the pay-TV channel Mix TV, but due to the channel's financial crisis, the program was canceled in June.[5]
In December 2016, Croislla received an invitation to perform a guest appearance on the bonus track of the Brazilian edition of the fourth studio album “Chama Por Mim”, by Portuguese singer Patricia Ribeiro, with guest appearances by MC Trans and Gretchen, produced by José Félix and Vinicius Henuns. With her artistic maturity, Croislla went through several reformulations, went on hiatus as a singer, focusing on her studies and her career as a digital influencer and dancer.[7]
In May 2020, she released the single “Sentada Insana”, in partnership with music producer Sam Silar and composition by Croislla in collaboration with drag queen singer Joan Stheffen. In August of the same year, she released the EP “Meu Legado” with the tracks “Favelada da Quebrada”, “Morenas da Quebrada” and “Bonecas Colocadas” [8] with the musical production of Sam Silar and SidRaffa, guest appearances by Laryssa Vayt and Joan Stheffen. In November 2020, she released the single “Virou Ex” alongside Brazilian singer, songwriter and producer Vinicius Henuns.[9]
In August 2021, she released the single “Patroa” in collaboration with the Brazilian singer, songwriter and producer Vinicius Henuns,[10] and in November of the same year released the single "Selvagem".[11]
In January 2022, Croislla signed a contract with the international agency Model Fam to collaborate with her career in Asian and Latin countries,[12][13] and in February released the promotional track "Mucho Fuego"[14] and in May of the same year she announced the single "Supera" alongside Sophia Barclay and Vinicius Henuns[15]
