Bardown Hockey (Bardown Sports Inc.) is an American trademarked clothing brand that manufacturers sports and team wear clothing[1]; among its lifestyle brand sold in hundreds of stores across North America. Bardown’s head office is located in Oakville, Ontario.

Early History[edit]

BARDOWN SPORTS was formed in a classroom at the University of Guelph in 2010 by Jesse Kirshenbaum. After receiving various grants and awards from the University of Guelph – Kirshenbaum contacted childhood friends Ben and Jeff Sacerty; who were hockey teammates of Kirshenbaum growing up. They are also identical twins. The first order of shirts was printed and sold at a party at the University of Guelph. The brand became partners with various associated reputable teams in the area such as the Guelph Storm to increase its brand awareness. People in the hockey world really began to take notice of the brand when Alexander Ovechkin was seen wearing the product for a month stretch. With positive reviews from players, word began to spread and orders began to increase. Bardown has shifted into team wear, working with notable partners[2] such as the CHL, NCAA, and minor hockey organizations across North America. The brand is now sold in over 300 retail locations worldwide and with 500+ custom partners.

Community Involvement[edit]

Bardown has contributed to several different initiatives, most notably raising over $15,000 for the Humboldt Broncos bus crash. This was all done through Bardown's Instagram.

Business Model[edit]

Bardown Sports business is based on using the Internet and social media, especially Instagram and Facebook as the main channel to grow its sales, following a strategy of marketing through influencers, celebrities and wholesale.

Celebrities[edit]

Celebrities that have worn Bardown include[3] Alexander Ovechkin, Claude Giroux and Drew Doughty. The brand has been worn by over 100 NHL ambassadors and adopted by the hockey community as a popular choice of off-ice apparel. Bardown Sports have also featured celebrities such as Freddie Prinze Jr., Norm McDonald, and music artists Shaggy (musician) and Thomas Rhett.
