History[edit]
In the Giyanti chronicle, it is stated that Blora belongs to an overseas area which is subordinate to the Ponorogo regent, so that the cultural influence of Ponorogo including the Ponorogo barongan also affects the culture in Blora.
So strong is the influence of Ponorogo that the names of barongan groups in Blora use the typical Ponorogo name, such as Singo Lodro, Singo Lodoyo, Menggolo. In its development, the Barongan Blora property always follows the Barongan Ponorogo or Reog property, from clothing, movement, and some music. like barongan, played by two people, now only one person is doing it and the head of the barong is bald in the middle. The Blora government declared Barongan Blora as a typical art of Blora, although in other Central Java cities there are still many Barongan groups played by two people, aka Traditional older Reyog.
In addition, there is a history that Barongan Blora himself was brought and developed by Samin Surosentiko after living in Sumoroto, Ponorogo, his ancestral place where the name Reyog in Sumoroto at that time was more popularly known as Barongan. in terms of shape, at that time Reyog's head was open with a large peacock crown, but when in Blora it was very difficult to get peacock feathers because of the Dutch colonial supervision, so it was replaced with palm fiber which was shaped like a peacock suddenly and inserted some feathers. just peacock on fibers as barongan blora's hair.
