Dr. Basant Prasad Singh

Dr. Basant Prasad Singh (बसन्त प्रसाद सिंह) was an academician and professor of Hindi literature. He was the head of the Hindi Literature and Journalism department at S.M.M.T. Post Graduate College in Uttar Pradesh, India.

Life[edit]

Basant Singh was born on 10 August 1943 in Pakari Kalan,[1] Azamgarh. For higher studies, he moved to Varanasi. He completed his B.A., M.A. and Ph.D. in Benaras Hindu University. His dissertations were on Ritikal of Hindi Literature and Ram Chandra Shukla.[2] He died on 27 August 1995 in Allahabad.

Family[edit]

Basant Singh's wife Malti Singh and youngest son Abhishek Ranjan Singh live in Nerul, Navi Mumbai. Abhishek is founder and managing director of ARS Solutions.[3] His middle son Ashish Ranjan Singh lives and works in the United Kingdom. He is lead consultant at Infosys. His eldest son Alok Ranjan Singh is corporate executive and lives in the Greater Boston area of the United States.

Books[edit]

Basant Singh wrote several books on literature. His first book was on Ritikal of Hindi Literature.

Basant Singh's second book "Acharya Shukla aur Pashchatya Kavyalochan" (आचार्य शुक्ल और पाश्चात्य काव्यालॊचन ) was published in 1991.[4]

An annual series of lectures has been organized in the memory. The Basant Memorial Lecture were organized from 1997 to 2001. Every year renowned thinkers, writers and speakers delivered lecture on various topics.[6]
