Bassel Abdallah (1975-) is a Lebanese lawyer, writer, poet and human rights activist, born in the town of Khiam in southern Lebanon.[1]

His civic activity[edit]

He is the general coordinator of the "Civil Society Movement". He was elected in 2009, and contributed to launching non-sectarian and secular movements in Lebanon.[2]

He wrote and lectured on topics of secularism, civil personal status laws. He participated in the drafting of the civil marriage law project, and was one of the advocates of civil marriage.[3]

He is the editor of the magazine "Civil Communication" since 2008.

He founded the "Secular Students Meeting" in 2015, a club that brought together secular students from various Lebanese universities.

In 2017, he founded, with civil activists, the “Aaks Al Tayyar Band” (Counter current Band), a singing and music group that defines itself as: “a purposeful band committed to people’s issues and concerns, criticizing negative reality and addressing society’s problems”.
