Abd al-Aziz Ibn Nasir al-Mani is a Saudi academic and researcher. He was born in the city of Shaqra in the Saudi Arabia in 1943[1]. He received the King Faisal International Prize in Arabic Language and Literature in 2009.[2][3]

Education[edit]

Al-Mani received his BA from the College of Arabic Language in Riyadh in 1386 AH /1966 AD.

He received his Ph.D. from the University of Exeter, UK, in 1396 AH / 1976 AD, specializing in a manuscript investigation. The subject of his thesis: (Ibn Batish al-Mawsili and his writing: The goal of the means to know the early ones: study and research).[4]

Since that time, he has been involved in the academic corps, working as a teacher in the Arabic language department at Umm Al-Qura University, then moving to the Arabic language department in the College of Arts at King Saud University in the year 1397 AH / 1977 AD.

In addition to his work in teaching and scientific research, Professor Al-Manea has held several academic and administrative positions, as Director of the Research Center at the College of Arts, Head of the Arabic Language Department for two years, and its representative on the College of Graduate Studies Council for four years, and Editor-in-Chief of its magazine for four more years. He also worked as Director of the Saudi Educational Office in the State of California in the United States for two years. During the years 1428 AH / 2006 AD and 1428 AH / 2007 AD, he was invited as a visiting professor for postgraduate studies in “Manuscript Editing” at the University of Sousse in Tunisia.

Professor Al-Manea is very active in the cultural life of his country. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Riyadh Literary Club, a member of the Saudi Arabian Society for the Arabic Language, and the Scientific Committee of the Sheikh Hamad Al-Jasser Cultural Center in Riyadh. Abd al-Aziz is also a member of the editorial board of Al-Arab magazine, which is published in Riyadh, and an advisory board of Alam Al-Kutub magazine, Alam Al-Manuscript and Anecdotes magazine, Al-Diriyah magazine in Riyadh, in addition to the Jordanian magazine in Arabic Language and literature issued by Mutah University in Jordan. Professor Al-Manea has a prolific scientific production in his field of specialization. He has achieved more than fifteen heritage books, published many research and articles in local and international scientific journals, and participated in many conferences and symposia in the Saudi Arabia, Australia, Britain, India, Italy, Tunisia, Egypt, and Jordan. And he still participates - for thirty years - in the weekly seminars of the Department of Arabic Language at King Saud University.

  • Al-Mana received the King Faisal International Prize in the Arabic Language and Literature Branch in 2009 on “Achievement of Literary Poetic and Prose Literature Classified in the Period from (300-700 AH)”.[12]
  • The book “In the Footsteps of Al-Mutanabbi” won the Book of the Year award from the Ministry of Culture and Information in Saudi Arabia.
  • Honored in the honoring of Gulf innovators in the field of heritage realization in the State of Kuwait in 2014.
  • He was chosen as a literary figure who served heritage on the International Day of the Arabic Language at Northern Border University in 2014.
  • Chosen by the Arab Organization for Culture and Arts (ALECSO) as the Heritage Person of the Year for 2018.
  • Received the Distinguished Academic March Award in the Humanities and Social Sciences at King Saud University for 2019.[13]

Dr. Abdul Aziz Al-Manea Chair for Arabic Language and Literature Studies[edit]

King Saud University decided to honor Professor Abdulaziz bin Nasser Al-Manea, Professor at the University’s College of Arts, on the occasion of receiving the King Faisal International Prize by allocating a research chair in the name of his Excellency in the field of Arabic language and literature.[14] “Dr. Al-Mana’s Chair for Arabic Language Studies and Literature” achievements included a list of literature achieved by a group of Saudi and Arab researchers. Over the past years, the chair has completed critical lectures within its interests and organized various courses in the realization of manuscripts, the development of grammatical competence, and language and creativity. And how to write scientific research, edit literary methods, correct spelling, and common errors with it. About the chair’s achievements in literature and its achievement, nearly 50 books have been published.

As for the lectures organized by “Al-Kursi” during the past four years, they bore titles significant for serving the Arabic language and its literature, most notably: “Innate Language Acquisition and Practice,” “Arabic Language in American Universities: Columbia University as a Model,” and “Arabic Language and Computing Prospects.” And “Al-Mutanabbi’s House in Aleppo,” “The Scientific Movement in the Days of Seif Al-Dawla: Architecture, Medicine, Astronomy,” “The Reality of the Arabic Language in the Readable Press,” “Dimensions of Social Cultural Theory and its Impact on the Field of Language Teaching,” and “ Individual texts or collective discourses.. the cortex and what is below it.”[15]
