Battle of Southern Jutland is a term which is used to describe the rivalry between two of the main clubs in the east Jutland region in Danish football. Esbjerg fB and SønderjyskE.[1]
History behind rivalry
The rivalry between Esbjerg fB and SønderjyskE is first and foremost a regional rivalry between two cities in southern Jutland, which are only about 62 miles (100 kilometres) from each other. The rivalry between these two clubs is also in many ways the rivalry between the traditional club of Esbjerg fB from 1924 against the newer, more modern club SønderjyskE, which was formed as a superstructure of Haderslev FK (founded 1906). Of the two clubs, there is no doubt that Esbjerg fB is the more successful, with five Danish Football Championship titles and three Danish Cup titles. SønderjyskE, in contrast to Esbjerg fB, has never won any Danish Cup titles or Danish Football Championship titles.[2][3]
