The battles of Kazerum would be one of the bloodiest battles of the Chiraz expedition as well as the Swedish intervention in Persia.[3][4] Under Josef Puosette, the Swedish-Persian Forces were tasked to patrol an important stretch of road leading to the town of Bushir, though facing multiple attacks by Mohammed Ali and his men.[5]

Background[edit]

After the gendarmerie had reached Shiraz during the Chiraz expedition, Josef Puosette was sent to guard an important stretch of road leading to the town of Bushir from insurgents.[6] However, this did not go over well with the Kashkuli clan, as their main source of income was execrating tolls on the before mentioned road.[7]

First battle[edit]

In February 1913, Mohammed Ali and his forces made their first attack on the Swedish positions. The battle would last 14 hours and 100 gendarmes would perish, being one of, if not the bloodiest engagement in the Swedish intervention in Persia.[8] Although being a victory, the Kashkulis would be able to escape without difficulty.

Second battle[edit]

Though having signed a truce, the Kashkulis attacked the gendarmes again when Puosette wasn't present. The gendarmes were forced to capitulate to the Kashkulis, this would've been a disaster if it wasn't for Josef Puosette immediately arriving with another force winning a decisive victory against the insurgents.[9]

Third battle[edit]

After months of quiet, the gendarmes would be attacked again in February 1914. It would be a chaotic battle, though it would end after reinforcements from Shiraz arrived.[10]
