BD Clean is a voluntary youth organization working to establish Bangladesh as a clean country.[1] The organization selects a specific place every friday across the country to clean it and inform the people around it about the benefits of a clean Bangladesh by creating awareness among them and encouraging them to throw the garbage in a specific place i.e. dustbin instead of littering everywhere.[2][3]

History

BD Clean was founded on 3 June 2016 by Farid Uddin and his friends.[4][5] Dhaka Clean was launched on 2 June 2016 as a roadside scavenger hunt from Shahbagh to A SAARC Fountain in Kawran Bazar, which is now known as BD Clean.[6][7] Currently, as of 2023, the total number of BD Clean volunteers is more than 44 thousand Actives Member.[8] They have branch teams in 58 districts and Upazilas under the district nationwide.[9]

Activities

BD Clean's 58 district and sub-district upazila teams individually select a local unclean spot on a specific day every week to clean it and educate the surrounding people about the benefits of cleanliness, as well as educate them about the role of the people in realizing their dream of a clean Bangladesh. Request them not to litter.[10] Also, various awareness exhibitions, road shows are organized by BD Clean. BD Clean has organized three exhibitions so far.[11]

Exhibitions

BD Clean organized a total of 3 exhibitions. The slogan of the exhibitions is, "I am not saying no to use plastic materials, I am just saying to be aware, let's all build a clean Bangladesh, take great care". The exhibitions named Save Earth Save Bangladesh were held successively as Season-1, Season-2 and Season-3.[12]These exhibitions were widely appreciated by the public and were made from non-biodegradable materials such as cigarette filters, plastic bottles, packets of chips, polythene etc. has been The exhibition titled Save Earth Save Bangladesh Season 1 featured the installation of 3 million plastic bottles, which was inaugurated by Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Atiqul Islam.[13][14] Season 2 of the exhibition featured 50 million cigarette filters and 30,000 cigarette packets made by BD Clean volunteers. brain, fish, turtle, tree, fruit and lung.[15] In season-3 of the exhibition, volunteers collected 30 tons of bottles, 30 million cigarette filters and 6 tons of chips packets from all over the country and made trees, fish, turtles, grenades, human beings. Clean campus declaration

From 10th November 2017 to 26th January 2018, the volunteers of BD Clean carried out a continuous campaign to increase awareness about cleanliness with a 12-week clean campaign with the aim of establishing a clean Dhaka University campus. On January 26, 2018 at 3 pm, after the group photo and oath, about 15 hundred BD Clean volunteers started the campus cleaning work simultaneously in 121 sections. After the cleaning at 6.25 pm Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman declared University of Dhaka campus clean.[17][18][19]
