I added some more info on the contributions and Women in Stem advocacy

Beata Maria Szydłowska (born 26 February 1989) is a Polish-Irish chemist scientist working in the field of nanomaterials, especially 2D materials. She developed method enabling isolation of 2D nanosheets of predefined size (specific layer number and thickness) which is broadly used in the field nowadays.[1]. She is an ambassador for Women in STEM and Science and serves as Diversity Advisory Board Member[2] within Graphene Flagship[3][circular reference].

Education and career[edit]

In 2013 Beata Szydłowska received Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from the department of New Technologies and Chemistry of Military University of Technology, Poland. She conducted research for bachelor thesis at the Institute of Physical Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences where she worked from 2011 till 2013 on molecularly electroimprinted sol-gel thin films for virus detection.[4]

In 2018 she received a Ph.D. in Physics from Trinity College Dublin in Ireland. Her research was conducted under the supervision of Prof. Werner J. Blau and Prof. Jonathan N. Coleman in the field of two-dimensional materials with a focus on noble metal-based 2D nanostructures, their spectroscopic and optical properties as well as applications[5].

From 2018 she moved to Germany where she got research position of research fellow at Bundeswehr University Munich[6] and Heidelberg University[7]. The main focus of her research is liquid phase exfoliation of layered materials such as graphite and other transition metal dichalcogenide (TMDC) compounds and improvement of whole process by formulation methods such as liquid cascade centrifugation[8]. This process produces liquid suspensions of two-dimensional materials such as graphene, MoS2 or PtSe₂ with specified size of flake. These enables a range of applications in fields of electronics such as transparent conductors, sensors, optoelectronic devices, solar cells, supercapacitors and many more.

She is actively collaborating with numerous institutions including University of Erlangen-Nuremberg in Germany, Shanghai Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in China or Wrocław University of Science and Technology in Poland.
