Behrad Tavakoli (Persian: بهراد توکلی‎; born February 13, 1973) is an Iranian-American musician, composer, critic, and political activist.[1]

Early life

Behrad Tavakoli was born on February 13, 1973, in Tehran, Iran. He is from Lur ethnic.

He graduated in music from Tehran University of Art.[2]

Career

He learned to play Setar under the supervision of Masoud Shoari. He was the CEO and one of the founders of "Khorshid Music Group" under the supervision of Majid Derakhshani.[3]

Tavakoli studied Radif music under the supervision of Mohammad-Reza Lotfi. He was also Lotfi and "Shayda Music Group" manager from 2006 to 2013.[4]

Tavakoli studied Vocal music under the supervision of Shapur Rahimi, Mozafar Shafiei and Vahid Asgarian. He also studied Setar and Radif music under the supervision of Sharif lotfi, Behnam Vadani and Behrouz Hemati.[5]

He was a member of the Writers' Council of the Specialized monthly music Culture and Song, and more than thirty articles of his have been published in specialized music publications, including Sheyda Year Book (1997).[6][7]

Tavakoli has compiled the theory of behaviorism in the analysis of Radif.[8]

Tavakoli is now teaching Setar at University of Maryland, College Park.
