Ben Akwuegbu F.C. is a Nigerian football club based in the city of Jos Nigeria which plays in the Nigeria Nationwide League. The club is owned by ex- international footballer Benedict Akwuegbu. He formed the club due to his passion for the sport and as a way of giving back to the society. Also within the club hierarchy is the head coach Sam Pam who is also an ex-international footballer. Ben Akwuegbu F.C. in its first friendly match of the season beat bitty boys to send warning signals to other clubs in the same league [3].
History[edit]
Early years[edit]
Ben Akwuegbu F.C. has its history rooted in a non - league club formed by the chairman. This club Mbaise Lions cruised into the Imo Federation Club semi's in 2012.[4] After retirement, the club chairman decided to form a properly registered club that plays league games and hence the birth of Ben Akwuegbu F.C.
Recent times[edit]
Benedict Akwuegbu, the owner of the club in recent times vied for the Nigeria Football Federation presidency.[5] It was a close call but after not picking up the ticket, he decided to dedicate his entire attention to running the club.
Grazer AK trials[edit]
Two players that impressed the club owner, Arum Stephen Bulus and Hassan Umar, have been given the opportunity to have trials with Grazer AK Austria.[6]
These two young players were very impressive during the just concluded 2022/23 NLO season and hence were invited over for trials by Austrian Club – Grazer AK.
