Bengaluru Metropolitan Region (abbreviated to BMR) is a metropolitan area comprising.[1] Bangalore Urban District, Bangalore Rural District and Ramanagara District. It covers an area of 8,005 km2 (3,091 sq mi), the second largest metropolitan area in India, after the Amaravati Metropolitan Region. Bangalore has also emerged as India's fifth largest metropolitan city by population (also the third largest city proper by population). The total Metropolitan Region has a population of 11,700,000. It is a major hub of Information Technology[2][3]

Bangalore Metropolitan Region Development Authority has jurisdiction over the entire Bengaluru Metropolitan Region (Bangalore Urban District, Bangalore Rural District and Ramanagara District).
