Bergen By Byte
Bergen By Byte (BBB) was a bulletin board system (bbs) that was active in Bergen, Norway in the 1980s and 1990s. It was established in 1986.[1]
BBB was one of the most popular online services in Norway in the 1980s and early 1990s.[2][3] Up to 15 users could use the system simultaneously.[4]:8 Users connected to BBB from their home computers using a modem.[5]
In 1988, the Bergen By Byte Conferencing system ran on a Taiwanese clone of an IBM PC AT with 1 MB of RAM and a 44 MB hard drive.[4]:8 The price of this hardware at the time was around NOK 20,000 including sales tax, which was a considerable amount at the time.[4]:8 The software was developed by the team that ran BBB.[4]:8
BBB was open to everybody, but a full membership required a NOK 100 annual fee.[4]:8
