Berti Niol is a fictional Italian footballer who played as a forward. He is considered as one of the best players ever in fictional street football.
Niol and Johnny Gold are the only players to have a special dedicated to them (Gold had two).
Career
Club
In 1989 he played with Nassion in Copa Masters. In 1992 he signed for Aren and in 1995 returned to Nassion. After the Bosman law in 1996, Nassion signed many foreigners under Brian Hotkins and Niol was the only Italian regular outfield player in the 1996–97 season (Liuk was the keeper).
But the season didn’t finish as it started and Zamora was now the main star up front. In summer 1997 he signed for NY States (as Donatini was there) but in late 1997 he was loaned to Nassion after a series of injuries, following Gigi Simoni’s call (Ronalt and Zamora were the forwards).
In early 1998 (alongside Klinner) he was loaned to Tonam. He helped them finish 7th and qualify to Intertoto. After Klinner quit football in summer 1998, Niol from the States was loaned to Tonam again in early 98–99 season (once returned to USA, Johnny Gold came in to replace.
In 2002 he returned (sub) to Nassion alongside Rico Bragio.
National team
Niol was called up to the Italy national team for the 1990 Mundo (sub) and the 1992 Europeo (regular).
Style of play
Legacy
Gold played in the WFU World Cup in 1994 but he refused in 1995 due to a contract issue with Aren. He returned in 2000 with Club Melody.
Personal life
He was single for years, with rumours going on that he was gay.
