Betty M. Vandenbosch (born 1956) is a Canadian academic administrator specialized on the impact of information technology on organizational performance. She has served as the chief content officer at Coursera since 2020. She was the president of Kaplan University from 2015 until 2018 when she became the inaugural chancellor of Purdue University Global.
Life[edit]
Vandenbosch was born in London, Ontario in 1956 to Martin and Ann.[1][2] She completed a B.Sc. (1977) in computer science and a M.B.A. (1983) at the Ivey Business School of the University of Western Ontario. From 1983 to 1990, Vandenbosch worked at McKinsey & Company in Toronto and Amsterdam as an associate, engagement manager, and senior engagement manager.[1][2] In 1993, she earned a Ph.D. in management information systems from the University of Western Ontario.[3] Her dissertation was titled, Executive support system impact viewed from a learning perspective.[1] She was a doctoral student of statistician Christopher A. Higgins.[4]
By 1995, she was the Lewis—Progressive Assistant Professor in the management information and decision systems department at the Weatherhead School of Management of Case Western Reserve University.[5] She was later promoted to the associate dean of executive education and external relations and an associate professor of information systems.[3] She researches information technology and its impact on individual and organizational performance.[2]
In 2008, she joined Kaplan University where she worked as the vice president for the school of business and information technology and as dean of students.[6] She became provost in January 2013.[6] In 2015, she was promoted to president.[3][6] From 2018 to April 3, 2020, she served as the inaugural chancellor of Purdue University Global.[7][8] She was succeeded by Frank Dooley.[9] On April 13, 2020, she became the chief content officer of Coursera.[10]
