Storyline[edit]

What happens when the way you look conflicts with status quo beauty standards? Society sees Afro-textured hair as a problem that needs fixing by making the hair straight. This unique hair type is seen as "not beautiful enough," "not professional enough," and other negative narratives. Beyond Curls & Kinks takes you on a journey to discover women's real-life struggles with their coily curly kinky natural hair.
