The Bhaktivedanta Vidyapitha, based at the Govardhan Ecovillage,[1] is a theological school dedicated to the systematic study of books of A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada for resident students. It offers a two-year full-time study program which provides a firm foundation for the students in their practice of bhakti yoga. The vidyapitha was started in 2012 by the students of Radhanath Swami.[2]

Training

The school provides training not only in the academic study of scriptures but also in the practice of spiritual disciplines, developing the mood of selfless service and refinement of proper behavioral conduct through constructive association of devotees. It is called the 5s model of training, i.e. Sadhana, Seva, Svadhyaya,[3] Sanga[4] and Sadachara (Vaishnava behaviour).

Syllabus

The school teaches the rich cultural and philosophical knowledge from the books published by International Society for Krishna Consciousness. The syllabus primarily constitutes the massive literary work of Srila Vyasadev, i.e. Srimad Bhagavatam and the life sketch of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu by Srila Krishnadasa Kaviraja Goswami, i.e. Caitanya Caritamrta. It covers the study of these two great literatures translated and commented into English language by A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. In addition, commentaries by acharyas or teachers like Srila Visvanath Chakravarti Thakur are also incorporated.

Campus

The Bhaktivedanta Vidyapitha is part of the Govardhan Ecovillage,[5] a project of ISKCON Chowpatty,[6] that is inspired by Radhanath Swami: a teacher of bhakti-yoga for over 40 years. The campus is located in this pristine farmland at the foothills of the Sahyadri mountain in the Wada district of Maharashtra.

Publications

The Srimad Bhagavatam[7] is a massive literature of 18000 verses and has multitudes of conversations and flashbacks amongst the various characters portrayed in it. It becomes difficult for a regular reader to keep track of the various personalities and episodes or understanding the complicated technical aspects of creation, universal form, time, etc. Having taken into account all these academic anomalies that inhibit one from fully delighting in the splendour of the Bhagavatam, the Bhaktivedanta Vidyapitha has designed a systematic framework to present the Bhagavatam in a lucid manner - Bhagavata Subodhini.[8][9][10] It is but a complement to Bhagavatam for devotees, students and curious readers.
