History & about[edit]

The school was originally established in year 1728, by the zamindars of Dewaitha village for the better education of their children.[citation needed] The school originally had two buildings, one for boys and one for girls. It was also known as a Madarsa which taught other things too, apart from Islamic education. The use of swords, horse riding, and fighting for protection was taught until 1858. The school when opened was spread over 6.3 acres.

By 1855 the school taught students through the 5th grade or level. Later, in 1861, in took students through the eighth grade. It was originally an Urdu language school but became a English language school in 1922. It was one of the first English language schools of the region. Other languages taught were Hindi and Urdu. The school fees per month were only ₹75 in 1922. It had 5 classrooms for boys and 5 for girls, and a capacity for 600 children. People from rich families mostly studied there during that time. It remained an English language school until 1953 when it was closed. In 1974 a new building was erected and the school was re-established. In 1974 the School was called name St. Ghulam Shabir Shah Saryoudya School on the name of a Sufi saint Sabir Shah. The school has eight class rooms and a playground and garden. The school campus has an area of 1.65 acres. It became a High school in 1974 and later became a Inter school in 1978.[1]
