William Flynn[1] CD (born June 1, 1958), known as Billie Flynn, is a test pilot.[4]

Flynn earned a Bachelor of Engineering degree in mechanical engineering from the Royal Military College of Canada in 1981, a Master of Science degree in mechanical engineering from California State University, Fresno, a Master of Science degree in aviation systems from the University of Tennessee, and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Ottawa.[2][5][6]

Flynn enrolled with the Canadian Forces Air Command (which is now known as the Royal Canadian Air Force) and retired after 23 years as a lieutenant-colonel.[7] In 2003 he joined Lockheed Martin as a test pilot for the F-16 E/F Super Viper. In June 2012, he became the thirty-ninth pilot to fly the F-35[8] when he took off in an F-35B. In 2011 he served as the president of the Society of Experimental Test Pilots.[1]

His ex-wife is former astronaut and Governor General of Canada-designate Julie Payette.[4][9]
