Binumi is a cloud-based video creation and editing platform founded in 2014 by British documentary filmmaker Anthony Copping. The platform allows users to create videos using a drag-and-drop editor and a library of royalty-free multimedia assets. Binumi is employed in both educational and corporate sectors for video content creation and management.

History and development

Anthony Copping conceived Binumi to enable young people to create documentary-style videos.[1] The platform launched in 2014 with an initial focus on education, offering a secure, moderated environment for students and teachers.

By 2016, Binumi was reportedly used by students as young as five in over ten countries, including Japan and Australia.[1] It partnered with the Professor Garfield Foundation to encourage video-storytelling among children using the Garfield character.

Binumi expanded across Asia, establishing offices in Bangkok, Ho Chi Minh City, and Hong Kong. In 2018, it announced plans to open a UK headquarters in London.[2]

Partnerships and academic recognition

Binumi developed the educational storytelling platform Britannica LumieLabs in collaboration with Encyclopædia Britannica in 2019, offering curriculum-aligned video creation tools to K–12 students.[3]

In 2013, Tech in Asia reported that Binumi was being adopted by Thai education providers to modernize curriculum delivery through video storytelling.[4]

Reception

Binumi’s approach combining licensed media assets with a built-in editor has been covered by independent tech media. Tech in Asia described it as an affordable platform offering "cheap stock footage for the masses."[5]

A recent business media report noted how Binumi, via partners like Crave Asia, is enabling disruptive branded video marketing efforts in Thailand.[6]
