Birds Aren't Real (Movement)
Script error: No such module "AfC submission catcheck".The Birds Aren't Real movement is an organization comprised of mostly college aged and high-school aged members that was founded in November, 1973[1]. It was founded by Clark Griffin, an activist against the United States' involvement in the Vietnam War at the time, after being contacted by a mysterious government worker known only as 'The Master'. The Master came to Griffin with the knowledge that a large sector of the United States' government had been involved in a genocide of birds native to the United States and replacing them with surveillance drones that were originally intended to spy on Americans due to increasing tensions and general fear of Soviet spies during The Cold War.
Upon being made aware of these developments, Griffin took his activism skills that he had previously developed and recruited other college students to form the Birds Aren't Real movement. Together, the members of the movement put on annual rallies between 1974 and 1993, when the movement was eventually disbanded after Clark Griffin went missing during the May 6th, 1991 rally in San Francisco, an event generally referred to by followers of the movement as Blue Monday.
Little information is known about the happenings of the Birds Aren't Real movement between 1993 and 2017, when the movement was revived with a focus on spreading awareness of the events that occurred decades earlier. Since then, the movement has been gaining more momentum as it has drawn attention once again primarily from college-aged Americans. The official verified Instagram account for Birds Aren't Real has over 300 thousand followers[2], and additionally there are numerous other Instagram accounts affiliated with the Birds Aren't Real movement of various sizes that are directed towards members in specific geographic locations.
The most commonly known tactic of the movement in raising awareness is spreading the message through billboards. The first of these billboards for the Birds Aren't Real movement was erected in July 2019. Another similar billboard was erected in July 2020 in Los Angeles, California and movement representatives have expressed intent to bring to more locations across the United States in the future. Representatives of the movement have also made numerous appearances across varying news sources such as radio stations, television, and printed news.
History[edit]
Origins of Bird Surveillance Technology[edit]
The Central Intelligence Agency of the United States, often known as the CIA, was founded in 1947 in an effort to surveil Americans and detect activity that could be interpreted as aiding the Soviet Union during the Cold War. Initially it was relatively unsuccessful in identifying and preventing crimes against the United States, and it soon became clear that more drastic surveillance methods were needed. After the highly publicized trial of Julius and Ethel Rosenburg of sharing classified documents with the Soviet Union, the CIA had a window that made it acceptable for them to put the first CCTV surveillance cameras in areas that had relatively high Russian immigration rates.
On February 26rd, 1953, Allen Dulles became the first civilian head of the CIA with the intent of increasing existing surveillance measures. On April 15th, 1956, he met with current president Dwight Eisenhower to propose the idea of implementing "eyes in the sky" due to the ease of tracking moving targets with a single camera rather than having to switch between multiple stationary cameras posted in different locations. The next month, after discussing the idea further with his team in an undisclosed location, Dulles decided that he was going to commence a project to kill all of the birds native to the United States and replace them with drones that would act as a surveillance system across the entire country. It must be noted that although this is speculation, some believe that Dulles made this decision out of a personal negative view of birds due to the fact that a similar program would have about the same effectiveness after launching only about a quarter of the drones that they eventually did. Additionally, Dulles had been overheard referring to pigeons as "flying slugs" and "the scum of the skies".
On May 6th, 1957, Allen Dulles met with an unidentified man representing the Boeing Airline Company, from which he ordered 120 B-52 bombers to be constructed in Area 51 in Nevada so that they would not be questioned by the general public. Therefore, 23 men from Boeing's Engineering department traveled to Area 51 in a bus to assemble these B-52 bombers, though only 22 of them made it to Area 51 since one Boeing engineer, Neil Ford, was left behind when he stopped to use the restroom during the trip. Upon arriving, the remaining 22 engineers were tasked with designing and assembling a variant of the B-52, the B-52B, which would feature a 450-gallon water tank in place of a compartment for bombs. Upon being designed and assembled, each of these aircraft were fitted with complex tracking technology and jet-black matte spray paint to camouflage the planes against a dark night sky. Additionally, all emitting light sources, including beacons and landing lights, were removed from the aircraft and their Pratt & Whitney JT3D engines were fitted with noise reduction pads, making them virtually undetectable while flying at an altitude of 3,000 feet or higher. After completion, the Boeing engineers were sent to the front lines of Vietnam, where they survived for 3 weeks, but were eventually captured by the Viet Cong and were never heard from again.
On June 9th, 1959, operation "Water the Country" was officially born, though it later be known as "Operation Very Large Bird" after 1976. This was the secret code name used to label the process of exterminating all living birds in the United States. In order to accomplish this, the water tanks in the B-52B planes were filled with a deadly toxin that would be soaked into the bloodstream of birds and eventually cause them to completely decompose within 24 hours. This toxin was sprayed at an altitude of 8,000 feet and completely dissolved before hitting the ground so that only birds were affected by it. Within the early stages of affliction, birds were capable of spreading the virus to other birds to eventually reach and kill any birds that were not flying while the B-52B pilot sprayed their region. The pilots were unaware of the existence of the toxin and were simply told that they were watering all of the plants in the country. Using this process, 15% of all birds living in the United States were killed between 1959 and 1965 and they were replaced by surveillance robot birds, known today as drones, created by the CIA to spy on American civilians.
Throughout the early stages of this operation, only the CIA was involved with the killing of birds. The current standing president, John F Kennedy, was unaware of the existence of this project until October 3rd, 1963, when he accidentally overheard a conversation between Allen Dulles and Alvin B. Cleaver, Internal Communications Director for the CIA. Kennedy's ham sandwiches that he ordered as lunch from the White House kitchen were consistently going missing and he suspected that Cleaver had something to do with their disappearance, so he ordered that Cleaver's phone would be tapped in order to further investigate. However, in this process, he accidentally overheard a status report on the developments of the bird genocide. Upon hearing this, Kennedy was appalled and threatened to fire both Dulles and Cleaver, though eventually they reasoned with him and he agreed to look at a robot bird prototype before taking any action.
On October 25th, Kennedy was shown a prototype of the Turkey X500, a specialized bird model that was used to kill larger birds such as eagles and falcons. Additionally, it had advanced surveillance systems that were capable of tracking escaped prisoners. Although being impressed by the program and understanding the need for increased surveillance, Kennedy ordered the immediate shutdown of the program. Although there is no evidence to fully support this claim, it is believed by many that the CIA both orchestrated the assassination of John F Kennedy and has since rigged presidential elections such that all candidates to make it onto a ballot are supportive of bird drone surveillance.
It is also believed that the CIA's involvement in bird extermination is what brought the United States into the Vietnam War. On July 2nd, 1964, there was a secret meeting held in the Jefferson Building in Washington D.C., of which the only known evidence is a 6 minute recording. In this recording, it is believed that the CIA was discussing the need for very large amounts of bauxite, the chief commercial ore of aluminum. Large amounts of bauxite were critical in the development of robot birds as their structure was largely made out of aluminum. While there is no proven connection, members of the Birds Aren't Real movement believe that the United States entered the Vietnam War due to the fact that at the time Vietnam possessed the 3rd largest bauxite reserve in the world and intended on using the war as a means to mine large quantities of bauxite.
Using the reserves of bauxite gained from this procedure, the United States government began assembling robot birds to replace the real birds that they had been killing on a massive scale. The bauxite reserves were sent to underground facilities disguised as bomb shelters that were capable of holding hundreds of workers and producing up to 5,000 robot birds each day. During the peak period of production, spread out over 22 bunkers, over 100,000 robot birds were being built daily. These drones were assembled by United States citizens scoped out by agents at local bars or clubs who were given a small tab of "acid" which in reality was colored paper. These people, believing that they were under the influence of acid, were given headphones playing only Pink Floyd music and instructed to construct bird drones. The end result is that the people tricked into doing this work believed that it was merely a hallucination that they experienced due to the influence of the acid tab and were unaware that they aided in creating robot birds in reality.
