Black Ghosts Drink Petrol

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Black Ghosts Drink Petrol (literal translation of the actual title of the piece, 黑鬼喝石油; pinyin: héi guí hē shí yóu)[1] is a work of public art, a mural by the Dutch situational artist Masaharu Nishiura.

Nisiura's mural tells about Chinese racism that projects itself upon occidental colonialism regarding the African continent in the 21st century. The work consists of live action / black spray paint / tar paint (bitumen paste) on an installation of the local water supply situated near La Caldera, La Orotava, Tenerife, Spain. Its goal is to comment on world water supply, the changing interhuman dynamics between white, yellow, and black populations, and how 'vessels' of colonial inspired infrastructure can function in 21st century daily life.

Footnotes[edit]

  1. "Black ghost" is the derogatory term for a person with a brown to black skin color in mainland China, analogous to the word 'nigger'.
