Black Metaphor (born Byron Forest II on July 24, 1989, in Atlanta, Georgia) is an American record producer and songwriter. He gained prominence for his distinctive production style, characterized by hard-hitting drums reminiscent of the early New York City MPC sound, combined with melodic and often dark samples. He is best known for producing "Ali Bomaye" for The Game featuring 2 Chainz and Rick Ross, which peaked at number 51 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.[1]

Early Life and Career

Byron Forest II grew up in Atlanta, Georgia, developing a passion for music production at a young age. He honed his skills using the MPC, drawing inspiration from classic East Coast hip-hop producers like DJ Premier and RZA.[2] He attended recording sessions of the J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League during an internship with them in 2010.[3] He later attended Middle Tennessee State University for audio production. He began his professional career around 2008, initially working with local artists. His breakthrough came with production credits on high-profile projects, including The Game's "Jesus Piece" album, solidifying his position as a sought-after producer in the hip-hop industry. In late May 2012, Carbon 15, Jeezy's A&R, discovered Metaphor. In August 2012, he signed to Kenoe's label, Night Rydas Productions. That December, Big John helped him sign with Warner Chappell Music.[4]

Production Style

Black Metaphor's production is known for its hard-hitting drums, often compared to the raw sound of early New York City hip-hop. He frequently incorporates melodic samples, often with a dark or melancholic undertone, creating a balance between gritty and atmospheric soundscapes. His style blends elements of trap and classic boom bap hip-hop, creating a distinctive and recognizable sound that has been described as both modern and nostalgic.[2] He utilizes a variety of tools, including Logic, FL Studio, and the MPC.[4]
