Blake Morgan (choral singer)

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Blake Morgan is a choral singer with the London-based a cappella group Voces8.[1] He is also the songwriter and composer for the pop-folk projects Esto and Goodnight Mr. Max. Morgan is a former member of several United States-based choral groups, including Chanticleer, Cantus, and Conspirare.[2]

Career[edit]

Blake was born and raised in Michigan where he studied both opera and jazz voice at Western Michigan University. While in college, he won numerous awards from Down Beat magazine, both as a jazz singer and arranger.[3][4]

After graduation, Morgan joined the Austin, Texas-based choir Conspirare.[5] He was a member when the ensemble won the 2015 Grammy Award for Best Choral Performance.[6] Later, he sang seasons with Minneapolis-based ensemble Cantus and San Francisco-based ensemble Chanticleer—the only two full-time professional male choirs in the United States.[7][8][9]

In 2016, Morgan relocated to London to become the first-ever American member of Voces8,[1] which records with the renowned British record label Decca Records,[10] tours internationally, and teaches music workshops worldwide. He is the featured soloist in the group’s acclaimed arrangement and video of the Ben Folds song “The Luckiest.”[11]

In addition to his work as a vocalist, Morgan is also a respected arranger and composer. His pieces have been performed on the Carnegie Hall Concert Series and at conventions for the American Choral Directors Association. He is also a member of the orchestral-folk band Goodnight Mr. Max and performs as a solo folk artist under the moniker Esto.[12][13] Esto’s most recent album, Houghton-Hancock Hum-Alongs, is inspired by the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.[14][15] Morgan played most of the instruments on the record, including drums, bass, piano, and guitar.
