BLOODHUNTER is a Spanish extreme metal band from the region of Galicia, founded in 2008 by guitarist Dani Arcos. The band's music is primarily in the melodic death metal style, characterized by heavy guitar riffs, blast beat drumming, and the harsh growled vocals of lead singer Rocío Vázquez, better known by her stage name Diva Satanica. BLOODHUNTER has released three studio albums and earned international attention through performances at major metal festivals and positive coverage in the metal music press.
History
Foundation and The First Insurrection (2008–2013)
BLOODHUNTER was formed in 2008 in A Coruña, Galicia, by guitarist and songwriter Dani Arcos. The turning point came in 2012 when Diva Satanica joined the project because her addition shifted BLOODHUNTER's style toward a more extreme form of melodic death metal.
Spanish underground recognition: Bloodhunter and The End of Faith (2014–2019)
In 2013, BLOODHUNTER released a three-song demo titled The First Insurrection. Their self-titled debut album, Bloodhunter, was released in May 2014. Produced by Daniel Cardoso and Pedro Mendes, the album featured 11 tracks including re-recorded versions of the earlier demo songs, and a guest guitar solo by Marios Iliopoulos of Nightrage.
In 2015, Dani Arcos performed in the 100 Guitars From Hel[1][2] event in Helsinki alongside Alexi Laiho.
The band joined Nightrage and Methedras on "The Bloody Tour"[3] and also toured Spain supporting acts such as Holy Moses and Avulsed during this period.
Their second studio album, The End of Faith, was released in October 2017 via Xtreem Music. BLOODHUNTER performed at major Spanish festivals including Resurrection Fest, Leyendas del Rock and Rock the Coast. Diva Satanica gained broader recognition after appearing on the 2017 season of La Voz (Spain's version of The Voice) [4][5], where she performed using growled vocals.
In 2020, the band reissued their debut album and a live album Live in Madrid recorded in 2019. Diva Satanica also joined the Brazilian thrash/death metal band Nervosa.[6], recording one album before returning full-time to BLOODHUNTER in 2022[7]
International recognition: Knowledge was the Price (2014–present)
Their third album, Knowledge Was the Price.[8], was released on 27 May 2022 through Maldito Records. Guest appearances on the album include Tim "Ripper" Owens and Rosalía Sairem. The band toured Europe and Asia[9][10], supporting bands like Jinjer[11] or Infected Rain[12] among others, and also played in festivals like Graspop Metal Meeting[13]
Musical style and influences
BLOODHUNTER's sound is rooted in melodic death metal, blending aggressive riffing with harmonized guitar leads and extreme vocals. Influences include Children of Bodom, Arch Enemy and Death. Diva Satanica's vocal delivery has been compared to Angela Gossow and Alissa White-Gluz. She has collaborated with bands such as Kamelot[14], Mägo de Oz[15], Legado de una Tragedia, Leo Jiménez, Crisix or Holy Moses, among others.
The band incorporates thrash and groove metal elements, and often explores dark, introspective, and mythological lyrical themes.
