Blooloop is an international visitor attractions industry website, online trade journal, media and event company, based in the United Kingdom. The website covers news stories, trends and developments in the sector, typically museums, science centres, theme parks, zoos, aquariums, water parks, family entertainment centers and resorts.
Readership is approximately 5.2 million unique users per year.
Blooloop is a press member of the American Alliance of Museums, International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions..[1], Themed Entertainment Association[2] and World Waterpark Association.
History[edit]
The news site was founded by Charles and Rachel Read in 2005, based in Devon, incorporated in June 2005. The website is run by an editorial team and journalists located around the UK, often featuring opinion pieces from key decision-makers, leading attraction executives and museum directors. The website claims to be “the world’s most-read news source for visitor attractions professionals”[3].
Blooloop conducts interviews and in-depth features with leaders across the attraction spectrum including National Museum of African Art Director Ngaire Blankenberg[4], M+ Museum for Visual Culture director Suhanya Raffel[5], and Merlin Entertainments CEO Nick Varney. The current editor is Charlotte Coates, based in Brighton[6].
Events[edit]
The company organises conferences and events, often featuring popular industry figures and executives. Thought leaders that have led previous discussions include Virgin Galactic Experience Architect and former Walt Disney Imagineering executive Joe Rohde, The London Resort CEO PY Gerbeau[7][8], The Smithsonian’s Ellen Stofan, and director of the currently under-development V&A East, Gus Casely-Hayford.
Blooloop has historically run Blooloop Live, a conference held in London. Partly due to the pandemic, in 2021 this was substituted with the Blooloop v-expo which welcomed 4,500 attendees from around the world.
The same year, Blooloop launched Greenloop, the “first visitor attraction conference dedicated to sustainability”[9], sponsored by international expo Floriade 2022[10]
Awards[edit]
The Blooloop 50 are a set of two awards originating in 2018. The final 50 are decided by a panel of industry experts, from a long list of 100 candidates.
