Bobby Long

Robert "Bobby" Edward Long, Jr. (born March 24, 1982) is a former law enforcement officer, former U.S. Navy lawyer, and current judge from Florida.  He has served on Florida's Second Circuit Court since 2016.

Early Life and Career[edit]

Born in Tallahassee, Florida, Long graduated from Florida High School where he was Captain of the school's soccer team and was selected as the Most Talented student in his class.  At age 19, Long graduated from the Florida Public Safety Institute's Law Enforcement Academy and became the youngest law enforcement officer at the Leon County Sheriff's Office.  

In 2003, still working as a full time law enforcement officer, he completed his Bachelor of Science at Florida State University with a degree in Finance, finishing with honors in the top of his class.  In 2008, while continuing to work as a law enforcement officer, he earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Florida College of Law, again finishing with honors in the top of his class.  Long took a commission as a Naval Officer in the U.S. Navy and graduated from Officer Development School as the Class Honor Graduate.  He went on to serve on active duty as a U.S. Navy JAG and completed a deployment to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.  

After his active duty service, Long returned to Tallahassee and joined the Florida law firm Rumberger, Kirk & Caldwell.  In 2014, Long returned to the Sheriff's Office as General Counsel and served as a member of the Sheriff's Executive Staff.  

Judicial Service[edit]

In June 2016, Long was appointed to Florida's Second Circuit Court by Governor Rick Scott.  In 2017, Long received acclaim for his creation of an innovative court based mentorship program designed to benefit juvenile delinquents.  In 2018, Long is set to preside over the gruesome capital murder cases against alleged killer Walter Rayborn.  

Personal Life[edit]

Long is married to Jenna Biuso Long.  Long and his wife have four sons.  Long coaches youth baseball and soccer in Tallahassee.  Long and his wife run marriage ministry programs for the United Methodist Church.  Long is an active Rotarian and has served in leadership for the Rotary Club of Tallahassee, he served on the board for the Tallahassee Legal Aid Foundation, and is a graduate of Leadership Tallahassee.
