Boetie op Manoeuvres aka Wild Maneuvers is a 1985 South African action-comedy starring Arnold Vosloo, Janie du Plessis, Ian Roberts, and Paul Slabolepszy. It is the sequel to the 1984 Afrikaans military comedy-drama Boetie Gaan Border Toe, which was released in 1988 as simply Maneuvers.

Plot[edit]

At the end of the South African Border War, rich boy turned soldier Boetie van Tonder is on a temporary leave with some of his friends. Hijacking a tank, they decide to crash a party where Boetie meets up with Elize, his former flame. Elize is now a successful journalist who is seeing Capt. Schuster, who soon becomes Boetie's superior along with Corporal White. When White and Schuster announce that they will have the team do a military maneuver, Boetie bribes Elize's editor to have her come do an assignment on the maneuver so he can attempt to win her back from Schuster. However, a band of mercenaries led by the Horror, who once followed high ranking superior Commandant Davel, seeks revenge for his ouster from the military. They intend to destroy the maneuver and when they set the military ablaze, Boetie and his friends decide to hatch a plan to stop the Horror and his group once and for all.

Reception[edit]

Albert Valentin of WorldFilmGeek gave the film a "B" rating, stating "The film’s opening and most of the first half seems like it could pass as a Stripes ripoff with Vosloo leading the way as the John Winger of the crew." and "The action comes in the form of the rogue team, led by the Horror. Played by Paul Slabolepszy, the character looks like the love child of The Road Warrior villain Wez with Blade Runner villain Roy Batty."[1]
