Booggz (born c. 1995) is a rapper from Toronto, Ontario. Booggz gained recognition in 2016 after releasing the singles "Camilla", "Floorboardz" and amassed over 2 million views for his song "Black Challenger" featuring label mate Buck. He also gained the attention of Drake and is expected to drop his debut album Father Figure in 2020.

Early life[edit]

Booggze grew up in Malvern, Toronto in a council flat where he often was met with street violence and hard drugs. He discovered his passion for music at age 12 and states that his influences include iconic artists Snoop Dogg, Jadakiss, and Lil Wayne, as well as Toronto artist Drake and Justin Bieber. Booggz recognizes that he is now playing that role for others.[1]

Career[edit]

2012–2017: Beginnings and 12 Days Away[edit]

Booggz states he has been rapping since the age of 12, however in 2012 at the age of 17, had started to release numerous mixtapes alongside Buck and Yung Sav.[2][3] He came into recognition in 2016 with his distinct style of hip-hop . After releasing a string of Extended Plays and mixtapes he gained recongition for the singles "Camilla", "Floorboardz" and amassed over 2 million views for his song "Black Challenger" featuring label mate Buck[4] He released his debut mixtape 12 Days Away in December 13, 2016 with features from Why-G, Buck, Yung Sav amongst others.[5]

2018–2020: Splash Bro's and Father Figure[edit]

Inc January 2018, Booggz released the single "Coup'd up" produced by Murda Beatz.[6] He also released the single "Noosed Up" during this month. [7] Booggz released his debut EP alongside Buck titles Splash Bros.. A play on the terminology of Mario and Luigi's Smash Bros.

Booggz was featured on the 2018 compilation album 6ixUpsideDown by 6ixBuzz and on their 2019 album NorthernSound.[8][9] In 2019, Buck garnered the attention of Drake, who brought the artist to travel on his alongside other upcoming Toronto artist, Drake also stated that the single "Suite Life" by Booggz inspired his Scorpion album.[10]

His debut studio album is set to be released in 2020 and is titled Father Figure.[11]
