The Border Cities Caledonian Pipe Band is a non-profit organization based in Windsor, Ontario, Canada/ Detroit, Michigan,United States and belongs to the Midwest pipe band association[1]. The bands membership consists of bagpipe players and drummers from both the United States and Canada.

History[edit]

Founded in 2015 by Pipe Major Frank Edgley and Drum Sergeant Colin Paige, with the idea of being a competitive pipe band with members from both the United States and Canada (hence the name Border Cities). The band has found competitive success in its first few seasons out including winning the grade 4 competition at the Kincardine Scottish Festival in 2017[2] and the embro highland games in 2017[3] and 2018.

Founder[edit]

The band was founded in 2015 when Pipe Major Frank Edgley felt that there was a need for a lower grade competitive pipe band in the Detroit/Windsor area. Prior to the band's founding, Frank Edgley had lead the Scottish Society of Windsor Pipe Band to an American, Canadian, and North American championship in the 1970s[4]. Outside of playing bagpipes, Frank Edgley also runs a world renowned[5] concertina manufacturing business[6], in which his concertinas have been sold from Ireland to Hong Kong and everywhere in between.

Activities[edit]

The band is seen at various events and contests throughout the year in both Canada and the Eastern United States. This includes various parades, such as the Detroit St.Patricks Day Parade and cultural events such as the Windsor Carrousel of Nations.

Piping and Drumming lessons are offered through the band to those wanting to learn.
