Box Critters is a massively multiplayer online game created by Rocket Snail, the creator of Club Penguin and published by Hyper Hippo.It is set in a virtual world and the players play as cartoon hamster-avatars known as Critters. The game was announced via Rocket Snail's Twitter on April 12, 2017 and was released for public beta on February 8, 2019.[1]
Plot and Gameplay[edit]
The game plays similarly like it's distance cousin Club Penguin,There are Rooms that players can walk around in. The Tavern was the first Room that was revealed, and more rooms were subsequently created. The Port is the spawn point in the game.The game takes place on a island like area. There is a shop where players can buy clothing for there Critter with coins (however as of right now there is no way of earning money).You control your Critter by clicking on screen and the Critter will go to were you clicked.[2]
Development Timeline[edit]
April 12, 2017: Game was Announced by RocketSnail via it's Twitter
June 14, 2017: Game started production originally as a 3D Unity project
January 2019: 3D was scrapped in favor of a 2D look that looks more like it predecessor Club Penguin and so it is eaiser to update.[3]
February 8, 2019: Experiment One was released for public beta,The main purpose of this experiment was to test a basic chat and movement system whilst seeing how many players the servers could handle. This beta only had one room, the Tavern and you couldn't add any clothing.
April 10, 2019: Experiment Two was released adding a inventory and free items that you can once per week get by typing /freeitem
May 16, 2019: Experiment Three was released adding new rooms The Bridge,Lizard,and 3 new mascots (however only certain people can change there skin). You can only go between rooms using the command /room [blank]
October 20, 2019: Experiment Four was released as well as the Halloween 2019 event. It included the first room with a scrolling camera(Port),Introduced Coins that can let you buy more items from the shop and added Snowmen NPCs (however there have since been removed).
April 2, 2020: Experiment Five was released adding the first minigame into the game (however the game has been removed). As of right now this is the current version of the game[4]
Events[edit]
Events are celebrations in Box Critters. Every event celebrates a different theme or holiday.
During events rooms will be decorated, new rooms will be accessible and exclusive items are available.

Combat Card Game[edit]
Combat Card Game is an upcoming minigame in Box Critters that lets critters battle monsters.The game test was launched with the introduction of experiment 5. The test game was removed however the game is accessible externally here.Currently, the game does not save the player's progress or coins but this feature is planned to be added in the future. The game uses cards to damage the enemy and is styled like a RPG.[5]
Critter Ball[edit]
Critter Ball (spelled Critterball) is an upcoming minigame in Box Critters. It is currently externally accessible here as a test, though it is planned to be playable at the Port. The game works similar to the mobile game Paper.io in which you have to make a big piece of land without touching the edge of the map[6]
Critter Climb[edit]
Critter Climb is an upcoming minigame in Box Critters. The game will be located at the Jungle and involves the player climbing a stone statue whilst avoiding traps.[7]
