GetAmped is a free to play MMO Fighting-Action game developed and published by the Japanese company CyberStep, Inc. Initially mainly published in Asia and in North America (under the name Splash Fighters), it has more recently also been released in Brazil and in Europe, including Germany and France.[6] As of 12 November 2012, GetAmped has officially been released and is being played in 16 different countries,[7][8][9] and the number of registered users playing GetAmped all over the world exceeds 26 million (as of April 2009).[10] With these latest releases, CyberStep has begun to put into practice its goal of releasing GetAmped in English, German, French, Russian, Turkish and Portuguese in the near future.[11] GetAmped was published by Lyto in Indonesia on 2005 before CyberStep expanded to Indonesia and take over the license on 2013.
Gameplay[edit]
GetAmped features editable skins and avatars.[12] Players can choose from different character styles, each granting their character different strengths and weaknesses, like a fast spy for example. Various fighting techniques like martial arts, and a wide variety of weapons, including pistols and clubs, can be used to attack one's enemies. The characters can also be equipped with accessories. Accessories grant special abilities and attacks, and can be combined to create new ones.[13] For fast paced action, players can play with and against other players in matches of up to 16 players, or contest various tournaments and challenges. Although playing the game is free, some character appearances and gameplay enhancements can be purchased from the in-game shop using real money.[14]
Customization[edit]
In the game, there are numerous possibilities for players to customize their avatars. By using an extensive in-game editor, not only the skins, but the entire form of the avatar can be changed. Thus, the avatar can also be created in the image of famous anime or cartoon characters.[15] Players also have the option to exchange the skins they have created with other players or download them from the official website.[16]
Game Modes[edit]
There are two game modes, Tournament Mode and Challenge Mode. In Tournament mode, a maximum of 16 players can fight on the same card with players fighting each other to be the last one standing. In Challenge mode, players fight against NPCs to clear one of over 20 missions available. Missions can be played alone or with other players, with a maximum of three per team at the same time in the same mission.[17]
Communication[edit]
In GetAmped, players have access to a set of animated emoticons, which they can use in the game. There is also a voice chat function, which is also available as a means of communication during missions or team matches. Lastly, players can form guilds and invite other players to join.[18]
