BoyNextDoor (Korean: 보이넥스트도어; stylized in all caps) is a South Korean boy group formed by KOZ Entertainment. They debuted on May 30, 2023 with their single album “WHO!”.
Name[edit]
The group name BoyNextDoor means they will approach casually and comfortably, just like the meaning of "boys next door". The group would like to express everyday stories that their peers can relate to in honest music to build consensus with listeners.[1]
History[edit]
2022: Formation[edit]
In January 2022, KOZ Entertainment revealed they would be holding global online auditions for their new boy group, hand-produced by Zico, through Hybe's YouTube channel, that lasted from January 3 to January 31.[2] On June 15, a teen rapper audition was launched by KOZ in hopes of finding male rappers for the group.[3] On August 4 following speculation the group would be hip-hop, attributed to Zico's personal style as a rapper, Zico revealed that the group would not be hip-hop as they wanted to create a group not limited to a specific genre on SBS Power FM's Two O'Clock Escape Cultwo Show.[4]
2023: Introduction and scheduled debut[edit]
On February 28, 2023, SPOTV News reported that the group would make their debut in May.[5] KOZ would respond by announcing while the date was yet to be confirmed, they were expected to make their debut in the first half of the year. On April 3, 2023, KOZ began a countdown on their website, set to end in 56 days.[6] On April 17, KOZ released the groups logo animation through the Hybe YouTube channel, unveiling the group name.[7] On May 12, a trailer video titled 'BOYNEXTDOOR [WHO!] Trailer Film' was posted on the official YouTube channel of Hybe Labels, revealing the members for the first time.[8]
