Brawl Stars is a multiplayer online battle arena[1] and third-person hero shooter[2] video game developed and published by the Finnish video game company Supercell.[3] The game was released worldwide on December 12, 2018, on iOS and Android platforms.[4]
Gameplay[edit]
In Brawl Stars, players battle against other players or AI opponents in multiple game modes. Players can choose between different Brawlers that they have unlocked through the Starr Road, Brawl Pass, or purchased through the Shop.[5]
Game Modes[edit]
Brawl Stars has a variety of different game modes, including:
- Gem Grab: Two teams of three players collect Gems; the first team to hold ten Gems for 15 seconds wins.
- Bounty: Teams collect stars by eliminating opponents; the team with the most stars at the end wins.
- Heist: Teams aim to destroy the opponent's safe while defending their own.
- Brawl Ball: Teams score goals by shooting the ball into the opponent's net.
- Hot Zone: Teams capture and hold zones to gain points.
- Knockout: Teams eliminate opponents in rounds; the first team to win two rounds wins.
- Showdown: Players battle to be the last one standing.
Brawlers[edit]
Brawlers are characters that players can control. Each Brawler has unique abilities, including a normal attack, a Super, and Gadgets. Brawlers can be unlocked and upgraded using in-game resources.
Brawl Pass[edit]
The Brawl Pass is a seasonal progression system that rewards players with credits, Gems, skins, and Brawlers as they earn XP through gameplay. There are free and premium versions of the Brawl Pass.[6]
Resources[edit]
Key resources in Brawl Stars include:
- Gems: Premium currency used to purchase cosmetics and Brawlers.
- Coins: Used to upgrade Brawlers and buy items.
- Power Points: Used to upgrade Brawlers.
- Bling: Used to purchase cosmetics.
Development and release[edit]
Supercell developed Brawl Stars to be a team-based game similar to League of Legends and Overwatch. The game had a long soft launch period before its global release on December 12, 2018.[4]
Reception[edit]
Brawl Stars received mixed reviews, with a score of 72 out of 100 on Metacritic.[7] Critics praised the game's graphics and progression system but criticized the controls and connection issues.
