Whitman, Breed, Abbott & Morgan, previously known as Breed, Abbott & Morgan, is a law firm “with a history dating back more than a century” with offices in Greenwich, Connecticut and White Plains, New York.[1]
In September 2000, they merged with Chicago law firm Winston & Strawn.[2]
Attorneys who have worked for the firm include Elliott Abrams, Charles H. Tuttle, Joel L. Shin, James D. Zirin and Paul C. Lambert.
Gibbs v. Breed Abbott Morgan[edit]
Charles Gibbs and Robert Sheehan, in 1991, were the only partners in the firm’s Trusts and Estates division. They left the firm to join another firm and brought an action against the firm for monies due according to the partnership agreement. The trial court found for the firm. The case was appealed to the Supreme Court, Appellate Division, First Department, New York.[3] The First Department, in a 3–2 decision, vacated the judgment and modified the trial courts orders.[4]
