Hamilton has made appearances on Fox Business News[3], Forbes[4], Fortune[5], Motley Fool[6], Martha Stewart Living[7], and American Banker[8]

Education[edit]

Hamilton graduated with honors from the pre-law program at Oregon State University, and later the graduate commercial banking program at Wells Fargo.[9] He previously held a Series 65 RIA.[10]

Career[edit]

Hamilton began his career in 1998 at Wells Fargo as a Commercial Loan Officer and later as VP of New Product Development for the Wells Fargo Foreign Exchange desk in 2001.[11][12] In 2006, he began at Clear2Pay where he led Product and Strategy for North and South America, Hamilton managed the evolution of Clear2Pay's payment products including ACH, wire, SWIFT, and card processing.[10] Clear2Pay was acquired by FIS in 2014.[13]

In 2010, Hamilton founded and served as President of Isomer Labs, a technology incubator in San Francisco. At Isomer, he helped develop the ChargeSmart Mobile POS platform. The mobile POS solution helped facilitate ChargeSmart’s successful acquisition by VeriFone in 2013 and was launched as SAIL by VeriFone.[10] Hamilton stayed with VeriFone as their VP of SMB Commerce.[10]

During this time, Hamilton co-founded PushPoint[9], a location-based offer redemption platform. When PushPoint was acquired by Capital One in 2014, Hamilton joined as President of Capital One Merchant Services and SVP for Digital Small Business.

In 2015, Hamilton left to become the Head of Business and Product at Stack Labs, the company behind Stack Lighting smart bulbs, the world's first responsive lighting solutions for homes and buildings.[14] According to the company's LinkedIn page, "Stack Lighting created a spatial intelligence platform to track activity for indoor spaces. The platform was an end-to-end system based on embedding Doppler radar into light bulbs, then aggregating and analyzing the data in the Stack Lighting cloud."[15] In 2017, the company was acquired by Philips Lighting.[15]

Azlo[edit]

Azlo was founded in 2017 as a digital banking service for freelancers and small businesses out of BBVA's New Digital Businesses division[16]. Equities.com wrote, "While the proliferation of digital solutions has substantially unbundled financial services, there is a new movement in fintech that is leveraging partnerships that create more value for customers. Azlo is making integrations with fintech partners a priority, and will be enabling its customers to interact with their accounts not only through mobile and web applications, but also through a set of user-accessible APIs."[17]

“The nature of what it means to be a ‘small business owner’ is changing as the technology that revolutionized consumer digital interactions with their money begins to catch up with the business tools ecosystem," said Hamilton in 2018.[18] "It is not unusual for an entrepreneur today to be familiar with APIs, partner applications and a host of other scrappy ways to 'growth hack' or kick-start a business. We believe that providing access to the core payments rails and account services that banks normally keep behind complicated treasury management walls will open the door to creative options for entrepreneurs to establish and grow their business. We’re especially excited about democratizing access to these services for a diverse set of founders in the new economy, where freelancing and side-hustling is becoming the norm, and banks have been slow to adapt.”

One[edit]

In 2019, Hamilton left Azlo to co-found the financial technology company One with Bill Harris, former CEO of Intuit, founding CEO of PayPal and founder and former CEO of Personal Capital. One aims to restore financial health for middle class families through innovative savings and credit products. Coverager describes the company as redesigning the key financial fundamentals "to help people save more, spend less and gain control of their finances. Two notable features are a single card for both debit and credit, and the ability to create ‘pockets’ within a single account to instantly share money with others, eliminating complicated transfers between banks or accounts."[19]

“Our mission is to connect people with their money by building a better way to bank, designed for real life, as we know it, today,” Hamilton told Crowdfund Insider.[20] "Consumers have to stay on top of multiple banking and credit accounts, creating a lot of anxiety. We knew there could be a better way to bank, which is why we created One—[technology] that supports you and simplifies your finances, alleviating some of the stress that the fractured financial products market has forced upon us.”

One's banking services are provided by Coastal Community Bank, based in Washington.[21]

Personal life[edit]

Hamilton lived in the San Francisco Bay Area for almost 20 years, and now resides in Sacramento and Lake Tahoe, where he enjoys backcountry trekking, snowboarding and biking.[22]
