Production
Development
On December 20, 2017, Netflix revealed that a sequel to Bright is in development.[1] On January 3, 2018, David Ayer was announced as writer/director and Eric Newman and Bryan Unkeless were producing the film.[2] On May 7, 2018, Evan Spiliotopoulos was to write the script instead of Ayer.[3] On February 21, 2020, T.S. Nowlin was to write the script with Spiliotopoulos.[4] On May 5, 2020, Louis Leterrier was in talks to direct, with Ayer attached to produce the film and share writing credit with Spiliotopoulos and Nowlin.[5]
Casting
On December 20, 2017, Will Smith was set to star in the film.[1] On January 3, 2018, Joel Edgerton was set to star in the film.[2] On September 20, 2019, Lucy Fry was to star in the film.[6]
Filming
On February 27, 2019, it was announced that filming would start in July,[7] but on September 20, 2019, Fry admitted that the filming was delayed due to Smith’s film schedule.[6] On May 5, 2020, it was announced that filming would start on another date.[5]
