As of 2020, BrightSphere owned seven affiliated investment firms including Acadian, Landmark Partners, Copper Rock Capital Partners, Thompson, Siegel & Walmsley, Investment Counselors of Maryland, Campbell Global, Barrow, Hanley, Mewhinney & Strauss.[2]

BrightSphere and its affiliates invest capital on behalf of institutional investors including pension funds, endowments and foundations, family offices and sovereign wealth funds. The firm is one of the largest publicly-traded asset management firms in the U.S.[3] BrightSphere reported $207.1 million in net revenue for the second quarter of 2019.

BrightSphere, which changed its name from Old Mutual Asset Management in March 2018[4], became a public company on Oct. 9, 2014 when it was spun off from British insurance company, Old Mutual.[5] Paulson & Co. purchased about 25% of BrightSphere from Chinese conglomerate HNA Group in 2018. Paulson is the largest owner of BrightSphere's stock followed by Fidelity Investments and Blackrock.[6]
