Brody Lamb (born August 30, 2003) is an American professional ice hockey forward currently playing for the Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League (AHL) as a prospect for the New York Rangers of the National Hockey League (NHL). He played four seasons of collegiate hockey for the Minnesota Golden Gophers in the Big Ten Conference, where he also served as the team captain.[1]

Early life

Lamb was born in Rochester, Minnesota, and raised in Byron, Minnesota.[2][3] He is the son of Jeff and Melissa Lamb and grew up alongside his sister, Olivia.[2] His family has a deep lineage in competitive hockey; his father, Jeff Lamb, played four seasons of NCAA Division I hockey as a forward for the University of Denver from 1983 to 1987 before embarking on a professional career that spanned nearly 200 games in the American Hockey League and the International Hockey League.[2] Outside of his athletic career, Lamb's preferred personal vacation destination is Arizona.[4]

Playing career

Amateur and high school

Lamb attended Byron High School but played his high school hockey for the Dodge County Wildcats co-op program, serving as team captain during the 2020–21 season.[4] During that junior campaign, Lamb produced a historically dominant season, leading the entire state of Minnesota in scoring by registering 52 goals and 35 assists for 87 points in just 24 games.[3][5] His performance earned him the Minnesota Associated Press Player of the Year honors.[4]

During the 2021 Minnesota State High School League Class A tournament held at the Xcel Energy Center, Lamb carried the Wildcats on a historic postseason run. In the state quarterfinal game against perennial powerhouse Hermantown High School, Lamb scored six of his team's seven goals in a shocking 7–3 victory.[6] He followed that performance with a hat trick in a 4–1 semifinal win over Little Falls High School to propel Dodge County to its first-ever state title game configuration.[7] Though Dodge County ultimately fell 8–1 in the final to Gentry Academy, Lamb finished the tournament with a state-leading 10 tournament goals and solidified his draft profile.[6]

Following his high school breakout, Lamb was selected by the New York Rangers in the fourth round, 104th overall, of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft.[3] To prepare for college, Lamb moved to junior hockey, joining the Green Bay Gamblers of the United States Hockey League (USHL). After a brief 10-game stint at the tail end of 2020–21, he played a full season for Green Bay in 2021–22. He recorded 41 points (19 goals, 22 assists) across 62 games, highlighting his campaign with a team-best 12 power-play goals.[2]

Collegiate

Lamb enrolled at the University of Minnesota under head coach Bob Motzko, debuting as a freshman during the 2022–23 season. Skating in a depth role on a star-studded roster that reached the Frozen Four national championship game, Lamb appeared in 39 games and scored 8 points (4 goals, 4 assists) while capturing his first Big Ten Conference Regular Season Championship.[8][1]

As a sophomore during the 2023–24 season, Lamb saw expanded ice time and experienced an offensive surge. He played in all 39 games, jumping to 27 points (12 goals, 15 assists) and tying for second on the team with four game-winning goals.[8][3]

During his junior year in 2024–25, Lamb established himself as one of the premier net-front and power-play threats in the Big Ten. He tallied a collegiate career-high 17 goals and added 9 assists for 26 points in 39 contests. He led the Golden Gophers with eight power-play goals, helping anchor the top unit as Minnesota secured another Big Ten Regular Season Championship.[8][1]

Lamb was voted team captain by his teammates ahead of his senior season in 2025–26.[1] Serving as the program's primary leader, he posted a collegiate career-high 16 assists and 30 total points in 35 games, finishing second on the team in both goals (14) and total points.[3] Down the stretch of the regular season, Lamb constructed a career-long nine-game point streak between January 17 and February 14, 2026, registering 5 goals and 6 assists during the stretch, which tied for the 10th-longest point streak in the NCAA that year.[1]

Over his four-year, 152-game collegiate career with the Maroon and Gold, Lamb accumulated 91 total points (47 goals, 44 assists). He won two Big Ten regular-season crowns, scored 17 power-play goals, netted eight game-winners, was selected as a Big Ten Star of the Week three times, and earned Academic All-Big Ten honors twice.[1]

Professional

On March 12, 2026, immediately following the conclusion of his collegiate senior year, Lamb signed a two-year, entry-level contract with the New York Rangers, set to take effect at the start of the 2026–27 NHL season.[3] To begin his professional transition immediately, he signed an amateur tryout agreement (ATO) with the Rangers' AHL affiliate, the Hartford Wolf Pack, on March 14, 2026, joining the roster for the final stretch of the 2025–26 AHL regular season and subsequent Calder Cup playoffs.[8]
