Brother Paul Brown is an American musician and Grammy nominated keyboardist, producer and composer. He is most associated for his work as a record producer and keyboarist/organist with The Waterboys.[1] as one of the numerous key musicians closely identified with the band, which he joined in 2013. His works are also associated with Ann Peebles, Eric Clapton, Dick Wagner,
Early life[edit]
Born in Madison Wisconsin July 4, 1963, Paul Brown moved to Memphis, Tennessee at the age of five where he lived until the death of his mother in 1975. Soon after his mother's death Paul attended The Tennessee Preparatory School, a school for homeless youth searching for a way to cope with his losses when he stumbled across an old upright piano that forever changed his life. By the age of thirteen, Paul immersed himself in music honing his music skills on piano, organ and even vocals while also being mentored by country singer Louise Mandrell.[2]
In 1979 it became more difficult for him to engage in pursuing a music career through the school he was attending so he climbed out of the 2nd story of his dormatory, left Nashville and went back to Memphis to where he began to form foundational relationships with musicians and performers within the tight knit music community. By the mid-Eighties Brown landed his first professional contract in the music producing industry with a publishing deal writing and arranging for various artists including Dexter Haygood who is on the List of The X Factor finalists (U.S. season 1).
Career[edit]
In 1991 Paul met Hi Records artist Ann Peebles and Don Bryant who are known for their 1973 hit "I Can't Stand the Rain (song)". Paul was hired to fill in for Hi Records organist Charles Hodges who was known for his high tone on the Hammond B3 organ, who appeared on records by Al Green, and other musicians signed to Hi Records. Paul eventually became Ann’s musical director and ultimately her producer. He worked with Ann for more than 21 years.
In 1994 Brown took a year off with Ann to record and tour with East West/Electra recording artist The MotherStation, to support their debut release Brand New Bag which sported the hit single Put the Blame On Me. However, in 1995 Ann Peebles invited Brown back to co-write and co-produce her 1996 album, "Fill This World with Love" which featured a line-up of major artists that included Mavis Staples and The Memphis Horns.
In 1998 joined rock group Survivor’s Vocalist Jimi Jamison for two years on tours that spanned the U.S. and Europe followed by producing two more albums including a newly re-mastered Gospel epic on Peebles’ husband Don Bryant titled; It’s All in the Word.
Around that same time Brown was also invited to play Keys on various major tribute records for Don Covay and Eric Clapton while he produced Bobby Rush’s album 'Undercover Lover" which Living Blues labeled; “One of the most important Blues albums of the year” and performing on a host of major television shows, specials and live DVDs that spans from David Letterman and VH-1 to Bobby Rush’s award-winning DVD Live at Ground Zero and the Grammy winning soundtrack for Martin Scorcese’s film The Blues.
Aside from producing tracks for American Idol finalist Alexis Grace, Metal super group Obstruction of Power and tracking keys for Lynyrd Skynyrd guitarist Rickey Medlocke’s forthcoming solo album, Brown produced Bobby Rush’s follow-up album.

Between making records and touring over 280 tour dates a year, Paul Brown continues to cover Thirty years of styles and influences into his soulful recordings and live performances. Brother Paul is deeply committed as the music director and keyboardist for the music driven charity concert for the Annual Dick Wagner Memorial 'Remember The Child" Concert series.for three years in a row.[3] The show honors the late guitarist/singer/songwriter Dick Wagner who wrote and co-wrote songs for Alice Coopper, Air Supply and appears as lead gitarist on dozens of records. This annual all star event, which is performed in Detroit, Michigan presents the music of Dick Wagner and is performed by many artists including Mark Farner, Jean Beauvoir,Kip Winger drummers Sandy Gennaro,Johnny "Bee" Badanjek Danny Seraphine, guitarist Micki Free, Derek St. Holmes, Brad Whitford, Joe Bass, Al Jacquez, Hal Patino, Maryann Cotton, Jimmie "Bones" Trombly, guitarist Kenny Olson, Peter Keys, David Winans II, Muruga Booker, Dennis Dunaway, The Frost, Suzi Quatro and The Pleasure Seekers with Patti Quatro and Laurie Beebe Lewis, Thornetta Davis, John Ellisonand other supporting musicians.[4] Proceeds benefit Children's Miracle Network Hospitals supporting music therapy.
