Bruno Goulet (born 16 February 1978) is a Canadian entrepreneur, software architect, and business executive. He is the founder and chief executive officer of Biztree and the creator of its flagship product Business in a Box, one of the world’s most widely used business-productivity software suites. Goulet is recognized for developing tools that help small and medium-sized enterprises start, run, and grow their businesses, and for promoting a philosophy of "conscious entrepreneurship" that integrates innovation, sustainability, and personal mastery.[1]

Early life and education

Goulet was born in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada, the eldest of two children in a French-Canadian family from the Beauce region. His father, Denis Goulet, was an enterprise IT architect for the National Assembly of Quebec, and his grandfather, Clermond Hamel, was a serial entrepreneur in sawmill and industrial-equipment manufacturing.[2]

At age 14, he achieved his first childhood dream by playing in the Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament, reaching the 1992 grand final with the Bellechasse Pee-Wee CC team. He attended École Secondaire Les Etchemins (ESLE) high school in Charny, where he excelled in mathematics and physics and served as editor-in-chief of the school newspaper Le Vox Populi. He later became fluent in English and Spanish in addition to his native French.

Goulet studied Business Administration at Université Laval, specializing in Entrepreneurship and Management Information Systems (MIS). He joined the Finance Student Association and was later elected Vice President of Finance of the Business Student Association, representing more than 4,000 students. He left the program with three courses remaining to join Decisif Software Solutions, a Montreal CRM and computer telephony start-up backed by Desjardins Investments, where he gained experience in software development and venture growth.

Later, he completed executive-education programs at major institutions including:

Between 2017 and 2019 he also attended Tony Robbins’ programs Business Mastery, Date with Destiny, and Unleash the Power Within.

Career

Biztree and Business in a Box

In 2001 Goulet co-founded Biztree Inc. in Montreal with Jonathan Defoy. The pair conceived the idea for Business in a Box while working for Decisif Software and repeatedly drafting contracts and legal documents manually. In August 2002 they incorporated under the name Envision SBS and released the first version of Business in a Box on 30 October 2002. The company rebranded as Biztree Inc. in 2006.

Under Goulet’s leadership, Business in a Box expanded to users in over 190 countries and seven languages and developed partnerships with HP, Lenovo, and Microsoft. The software evolved from a desktop template library to a SaaS-based Business Management Platform and, later, an AI-powered operating system for small and mid-sized businesses.[3]

Major milestones include:

  • 2002 – Initial launch
  • 2006 – Rebrand as Biztree Inc.
  • 2011 – Distribution partnerships with HP and Lenovo
  • 2019 – Transition to SaaS (Business in a Box Online) and start of One Tree at a Time initiative
  • 2023 – Launch of Cloud Drive Document Management Service
  • 2025 – Release of Business in a Box 2.0 and Future of Work Stack[4]

Other ventures

Through Biztree Holdings, Goulet is founding or incubating several related ventures:

  • Biztree AI – AI agents for workflow automation
  • Biztree Marketplace – platform for SMBs and freelancers
  • Startup Academy – entrepreneurship accelerator
  • Business Growth XL – leadership and scaling training

Sustainability

Since 2019, Biztree’s One Tree at a Time program has funded the planting of over 80,000 trees.[5] The company supports organizations such as Centraide, the Red Cross, Vision Mondiale, the UN Crisis Fund, and Montreal's Children Hospitals.

Philosophy and vision

Goulet identifies with ideals of innovation, humanity, and progress. He describes his approach as Conscious Entrepreneurship — integrating business performance with mindfulness and global responsibility. His framework centers on the four pillars of Mind, Emotions, Body, and Soul, advocating balance as the foundation of effective leadership.[6]

He frequently states that technology should expand human potential and that success gains meaning only when aligned with integrity and purpose:

“We are a drop of water in the ocean, dust in the wind — but through consciousness we can create ripples that change the tides of humanity.”

Legacy and impact

Through Biztree and Business in a Box, Goulet has helped millions of entrepreneurs launch companies and streamline operations worldwide. He continues to advocate AI-driven business tools that enhance productivity while supporting sustainability and ethical leadership. His initiatives, such as Startup Academy and LifePlan, reflect a belief that entrepreneurship and self-mastery are pathways to collective progress.
