Building Global Innovators, legally named BGI S.A., is a deep-tech innovation accelerator born in 2010 from the MIT Portugal Innovation and Entrepreneurship Initiative (IEI).[1] In 2016, it was published a scientific paper about BGI's model of "Transnational Acceleration of Local Startups". BGI's headquarters are based in Lisbon, Portugal and, according to Forbes, contributes for the development of the entrepreneurial ecosystem of Lisbon.[2][3]

BGI initiated as a program supported by MIT, Carnegie, UT Austin, Harvard, and Fraunhofer in 2010.[4] The person in charge for this program was Gonçalo Amorim, its current CEO, former Program Director of MIT Portugal – Innovation & Entrepreneurship Initiative.[5]
