Byron Habinsky (born 7 August 1978) is an American film producer. He began his career as an actor on stage in New York City and later went on to play significant roles in film and television. In 2010 Habinsky founded Delirium Picturehouse,[1] his own film development and production company.
Early life[edit]
Byron Habinsky was born in Riga, which at the time was still part of the Soviet Union. His family is of Jewish descent, however he was not fully aware of his religious background until his early teens due to widespread anti-semitism in the former Soviet Union. In the fall of 1989 Habinsky, with his family, immigrated to the United States and settled in the Bronx borough of New York City.
Career[edit]
Growing up in New York City, and like many notable New York actors before him, Habinsky got his start on stage. Having always been drawn to complex human characters he quickly found himself playing those in various stage productions around the city. He has appeared as Phil in Hurlyburly, Chris Keller in Arthur Miller’s All My Sons and played the role of Valentin in Kiss of the Spider Woman.
It is that range and versatility that soon landed him on the big screen and he began fielding offers to appear in film and television. Byron received rave reviews for his portrayal of Gabrijel, a troubled hotel bellhop living a mysterious double life, in Sean Nalaboff's Leave Day. As interest in his work grew, his interest in it declined as he already had his mind and sights set on producing.
In 2010 Habinsky founded Delirium Picturehouse, his own production company. He went on to Executive Produce The Sea Is All I Know, a critically acclaimed drama starring Academy Award winner Melissa Leo [2] and Peter Gerety. The film premiered at the 2011 Palm Springs International ShortFest where it was selected by the audience as “Best of the Fest”. He then executive produced Not in Tel Aviv, an Israeli dark comedy which went on to play a number of notable film festivals, was sold to several territories and has won the praise of critics and audiences alike.
Today, he fully oversees all of Delirium Picturehouse's current properties as the company has been active in acquiring and developing a slate of meaningful as well as commercially viable content.
