Cà Phê Vietnamese Coffee House is a social enterprise and coffeehouse headquartered in Vancouver's Chinatown House.[1] It was founded in 2019 and is considered Vancouver's first Vietnamese coffee bar.[2][3]

Background[edit]

Cà Phê Vietnamese Coffee House was launched in March 2019 as a social enterprise and coffee shop that employs women newcomers to Canada and encourages the support of Vancouver's Chinatown greengrocers.[4][5] It was founded by Minna Van with its headquarters in Vancouver's Chinatown House.[6][7]

Cà Phê imports the coffee from Buôn Ma Thuột, the capital city of Đắk Lắk Province in the Central Highlands of Vietnam, and uses phins to make Vietnamese coffee which is traditionally roasted with butter and a little rum.[8][9][10] Cà Phê serves traditional and modern Vietnamese coffee, including iced coffee, avocado coffee and the Vietnamese egg coffee,[11] and traditional Vietnamese cakes such as Bánh bò and Bánh da lợn.[12][13]

In May 2019, Cà Phê partnered with Beaucoup Bakery to support Chinatown House's programming and allocated around 25 percent of the sales to support Chinatown House's Community Digital Lab.[2]

In December 2020, Cà Phê launched its first online community market to honor and restore cultural traditions while supporting Vancouver's Downtown Eastside (DTES) with a selection of wares from local artists, bakers, and craftspeople.[14]
