C.B. Satpathy

Chandra Bhanu Satpathy (born January 14, 1948), also known as C.B. Satpathy, is a scholar,[citation needed] author,[1] Indian cultural ambassador,[2] and humanitarian.[3][4][5] He is the founder and chairman of Shirdi Sai Global Foundation, Gurugram, and CBS Cultural Foundation, Gurugram.[6]

Education[edit]

Satpathy was born to Gokul Chandra Satpathy and Harshamayee Satapathy in Cuttack, Odisha.[7][8]

In 1968, he completed his bachelor's degree (BA) in Political Science (Hons.) from Ravenshaw College, Utkal University.[9] In 1970, he completed his master's degree (MA) in Political Science from Ramjas College, Delhi University in 1970.[10]

Career[edit]

Satpathy was as a lecturer at Hastinapur College, Delhi University (now renamed as Motilal Nehru College), from 1970 to 1972.[10][11] He was an IPS Officer and retired as the Director General of Police in 2008.[7][8][10][12][13] In August 1981, as SSP Azamgarh, he was awarded the Police Medal for Gallantry by the President of India. He has also won the U.P. Governor's Award for the best welfare activities conducted by the Police force in 1985. In 1991, He was awarded the Police Medal for long and Meritorious Services by the President of India. In the year 1997, he received another award from the President of India - the Police Medal for Distinguished Services.

Satpathy was also awarded M Phil on "Civil Aviation Security in India" from Punjab University and  a Masters Diploma in Public Administration (MDPA) in 1993 from Indian Institute of Public Administration (IIPA), under the  Government  of India.

He became the Chief Vigilance Officer at Indian OIL Corporation Limited in January 1998, and in January 2003, he joined as the Chief Vigilance Officer at the Oil & Natural Gas Corporation. In September 2006, he was promoted to Director General Police (DG) as Director of B.R.A. UP Police Academy at Moradabad, UP.[13]

Satpathy is the chief patron of Shirdi Sai Public School, Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, Sai International School, Bhubaneswar, Odisha, and Silver OAK Academy, Shirdi, Maharashtra.[14][15][8] He composed devotional songs in Hindi, Odia, Telugu, Tamil, Bhojpuri, Maithili, Punjabi, Rajasthani, and Assamese languages.[7]

He is the author of over fifty nine books on spiritualism, Indian cosmology, cosmogony, Indian culture, and short stories (satires). Several of his books have been translated into 16 Indian regional languages[16] and five international languages.[17]

Shri Guru Bhagwat[edit]

His magnum opus, titled Shri Guru Bhagwat, originally written in Odia language, comprehensively covers the entire gamut of Guru Parampara, which carries the holy tradition of Indian culture.[16][17] In 2012, Srimati Prathibha Devisingh Patil (the then President of India) wrote a letter of recognition and appreciation to Satpathy for the book's success.[18][19]

Satpathy has written and composed several devotional renditions in Hindi, Odia, and Sanskrit as a lyricist. His cassettes and CDs have been released by music houses like The Times Music, Sa Re Ga Ma, and T-series. He has composed devotional songs in Hindi, Odia, Telugu, Tamil, Bhojpuri, Maithili, Punjabi, Rajasthani, and Assamese languages.

Sai Movement[edit]

He organized Shirdi Sai Baba Camps at the Kumbha Melas in Allahabad (1995, 2001, 2007, 2013), Nasik (2003), Haridwar (2004, 2010, and 2016), the Tigri Mela in Garh Mukteshwar, and the Krishna Pushkaralu Mela in Vijayawada (2004, 2016).[20][21][22] He oversaw the planning of the SAI UTSAV (International Conference on Shirdi Sai Baba) in Chicago, USA (2001 and 2009), Johannesburg and Nairobi in Africa (2002), Sydney, Australia (2002 and 2016), and Auckland, New Zealand (2016).[23][24][25]

Philanthropy[edit]

Satpathy is the founder and patron of Swabhiman and Mamta, a nonprofit organization.[26] He is the founder and Chairman of Shirdi Sai Global Foundation,[27] providing accessible dispensaries and medical camps, including Garh Mela and Kumbh Mela.[4][5] Satpathy is also the chief patron of Anjali, a sister organization of Swabhiman.[26]

Satpathy is the founder and Chairman of the CBS Cultural Foundation, established in August 2021.[5]

In 2001, Satpathy founded Swabhiman, Bhubaneshwar, a registered nonprofit organization in Bhubaneshwar.[2][27]

He is the founder of Sai Kripa Bangla Sansthan, Kolkata, a charitable trust that trains widows and women. He also provided financial assistance to Starship Foundation, Auckland, and Lily Foundation.[27][5]

He set up a veterinary clinic in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh for providing free health care to distressed animals.[27]

Recognition[edit]

On September 27, 2012, Satpathy was awarded the Building Bridges Across the Nations award by Washington State India Trade Relation Action Committee (WASITRAC) during the opening reception for the 1st Washington state Summit on US-India Trade.[17][18][28][29][30] On June 24, 2015, he became the first Indian citizen invited to open the United States House of Representatives (HoR) as a Guest Chaplain.[17][18][31][32][33]

On November 26, 2015, at the 57th National Convention of the Indian Institution of Industrial Engineering and the 3rd international conference on Industrial Engineering (ICIE-2015), Satpathy was conferred with the Lifetime Honorary Membership of the Indian Institute of Industrial Engineering.[18]
