CEU Ferdinand III University (Spanish: Universidad CEU Fernando III; UF3 CEU) is a private, Catholic higher education institution located in Bormujos, Seville, Andalusia, Spain. Established in 2023, it is named in honor of King Ferdinand III of Castile, called the Saint.[1]

History[edit]

CEU Fernando III University was officially recognized in 2023, marking the culmination of a legislative process that began in 2005 and resumed in 2022. This institution represents the fourth addition to the Centro de Estudios Universitarios CEU educational group in Spain.[2]

The naming of the university is a tribute to King Ferdinand III of Castile, known as "the Saint". His historical significance, particularly in the Siege of Seville, a pivotal event in his successful reconquest of Sevilla from Moorish rule in 1248, resonates deeply with the university's ethos. King Ferdinand's contributions went beyond military accomplishments, as he was instrumental in fostering Sevilla's religious, cultural, and economic development. This legacy aligns closely with the university's values and its mission to cultivate an environment of learning and growth.
