The Canadian Integrated Program for Antimicrobial Resistance Surveillance (CIPARS) collects data on antibiotic sales, use and resistance in enteric bacteria across people, animals and food in Canada.[1]

Scope[edit]

The data collected by CIPARS are:[2]

  • Antibiotic resistance rates: human infections with Salmonella and Campylobacter are notifiable in Canada, so CIPARS is able to passively gather data on resistance rates through existing national programs. CIPARS uses a combination of active and passive surveillance in animals.
